A Day in the Life at Piper Preschool
A typical day for our children is a mix of learning about friendships, discovering their independence, expressing their own thoughts, solving problems with new ideas (their ideas), and lots of exploring outside with art, nature, and movement. In the end, it’s all geared for your child to be happy, safe, ready for what’s next, and to know that they matter.
Class meetings are held at the start of the day in each classroom. Bringing everyone together to begin the day strengthens connection and social awareness as they listen to the thoughts and ideas of others, builds confidence and communication when sharing personal stories in a caring environment, and allows curiosity to emerge – as the consistent routine promotes predictability. Ever wonder why your child likes to read the same book over and over? Same thing. Kids look for familiarity to make sense of the world. Predictability reinforces self-assurance, which gives a greater sense of control, comfort, and courage.
Outdoors, children explore everything from an art studio, to gardening, to a woodshop, to a creek. Yes, a creek. Each class schedule includes about a third of the day outdoors, with additional opportunities depending on interests.
As for our curriculum, it’s embedded in all we do… individually, in small-group settings, and with whole-class projects. We combine our respect for child interests with traditional school readiness.
But, what about for our Parents?
For starters, we wrote this while sitting in the Community Room… a dedicated space just for parents. As a Piper Parent, you can drop off your child, stay and grab a coffee, set up for a remote work day, and even make breakfast. Preschool is a big deal and takes a lot of trust. We get it. Turns out, it’s not just for kids.
Along with our preschool curriculum, Piper also offers Baby and Toddler enrichment classes. “Piper Baby” is thoughtfully developed with parents AND our littlest learners in mind. We offer a variety of classes, created for crawlers through 2ish years old.
And now Introducing… Piper Preschool X Wild Child Gym
Piper cares deeply about community and always looks for ways to partner with our neighbors. A great example of this is our new partnership with Wild Child Gym. We are collaborating with them to launch a new series of Baby and Toddler classes. Wild Child Gym is bringing their signature action-packed classes to Piper’s Santa Monica, Los Angeles, and Manhattan Beach campuses.
Wild Child owners, Wai and Allison told us more about their gym:
Our goal is to nurture a child’s imagination, wonder + strength through play and preserve the magic of childhood. With the brand’s evolution, we’ve leaned further into the creative aspect of our programming. Wai developed Wild Child’s exclusive curriculum pre-opening. At the same time, we never wanted our offerings to feel dated or stagnant. To that end, we are constantly challenging ourselves to create new and imaginative themes, along with fun and developmentally appropriate activities, games, and movements that support them.
Our intention is to cultivate childhood joy, wellness and build community. We believe in play and that a child’s environment acts as an important teacher. A connection with nature is at the forefront of everything we do, from the materials we chose to the inspiring atmospheres we provide. It takes a village…and we are so happy to be a part of Piper’s! It’s nice to be here.
Aloha,
Wai, Allison + Wild Child Gym
